Install waaaapp on Mac, Windows or Linux
Choose a package from the downloads section or GitHub Releases. Download names identify the operating system and processor.
- macOS 13 or later: the universal DMG works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Open the DMG and move waaaapp to Applications. Current unsigned builds may be blocked by macOS. Check that the download came from this project's release page; do not disable system-wide security protections.
- Windows: choose x64 for most Intel and AMD PCs, or ARM64 for an ARM-based PC. Run the installer. Unsigned installers may show a SmartScreen warning.
- Linux: choose the x86_64 or ARM64 AppImage for your machine, mark it executable in your file manager, then launch it. FUSE support may be required by your distribution.
Install on macOS with Homebrew
brew tap waaaapp/desktop https://github.com/waaaapp/waaaapp
brew install --cask waaaappThis uses the project's own Homebrew tap. Homebrew does not bypass macOS security checks.
Add and switch WhatsApp accounts
- Open waaaapp and select the + button in the right-hand rail.
- On your phone, open WhatsApp, then Linked devices → Link a device.
- Scan the QR code shown in waaaapp. Repeat for each phone number you want to use.
- Select an account icon to switch. Open workspace settings to change its name or choose a photo.
Each account uses a separate local session. The app uses your WhatsApp profile photo when the web interface makes it available. Otherwise, it shows initials until you choose a photo.
Accounts connect when you first select them. Once opened, they stay connected while the app runs. An unopened account will not receive desktop notifications. The app asks before closing, because notifications stop when it closes.
Keyboard shortcuts
- ⌘/Ctrl + 1–9
- Switch to an account.
- ⌘/Ctrl + T
- Add an account.
- ⌘/Ctrl + ,
- Open workspace settings.
- ⌘/Ctrl + R
- Reload the current account.
Set up microphone and camera access for calls
On first launch, choose Set up calls. Allow the requested operating-system permissions. waaaapp briefly tests the microphone and camera, then releases them. You can run setup again from workspace settings.
- macOS: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and Camera. Enable waaaapp. If access was previously denied, restart the app after changing it.
- Windows: check Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and Camera. Allow desktop apps to access the devices.
- Linux: check your desktop's device and privacy settings, and make sure the microphone and camera are available to the app.
WhatsApp supports web calling, but feature availability is controlled by WhatsApp. A successful device test confirms local access; it does not verify an answered call. If a call fails, check permissions, your selected audio device, and your network connection.
Export a workspace and restore it on another computer
- Open workspace settings and enter a passphrase of at least 10 characters.
- Select Export workspace and save the
.waaaappfile. - Copy the file to the other computer using a transfer method you trust.
- Install waaaapp there, open settings, enter the same passphrase and select Import workspace.
- Link each restored account with the QR code on your phone.
The encrypted file contains account names and photos. It does not contain messages or login sessions. Imported accounts are added to the destination workspace, leaving existing accounts intact. Keep the passphrase safe: there is no recovery service.
Backups created by waaaapp 1 used a different ZIP format and cannot be imported as version 2 workspaces.
Keep waaaapp up to date
Windows installers and Linux AppImages check for updates and download them in the background. Install when you restart or close the app normally. Workspace settings includes a manual update check.
Unsigned Mac builds check for new releases but require a manual download or brew upgrade --cask waaaapp. Signed automatic updates require the project's Apple Developer signing setup.
Existing waaaapp 1 installations have no updater. Install a current release once to move to the new update system. Existing account partitions are retained, but WhatsApp can still require relinking.

Open a GitHub issue with your operating system, app version and the steps that caused the problem. Do not include QR codes, messages, phone numbers, login files or backup passphrases in a public report.
